Mary-Joan Negro Lecturer
Mary-Joan Negro received her B.A. in Drama and Language Arts at the University of Michigan. Upon graduation, she was given a scholarship by the Juilliard School to join the first class of the Julliard Drama Division headed by John Houseman. As a member of the first graduating class, she became a founding member of John Houseman’s The Acting Company and performed with that company both on Broadway, as well as on tour throughout the United States. Since leaving The Acting Company, she has acted on Broadway, off-Broadway, at repertory companies throughout the United States, and at the O’Neill Playwrights Conference in Connecticut. Ms. Negro received a Tony nomination for her role of Amy in Arthur Kopit’s play Wings directed by John Madden. She has also guest starred in countless television movies, mini-series, episodic, soaps, and sit-coms. In L.A., she has been a founding member of Joseph Stern’s Matrix Theatre Company, as well as The Anteus Company. In recent years, Ms. Negro has been a director and teacher working in both capacities in a variety of venues including her own company, Classics Alive, The Acting Company in New York, Enrichment Works, and Cal Arts. Ms. Negro teaches acting in both the USC BA and BFA programs and has directed two productions for the SOT at USC: A Mother, the Constance Congdon adaptation of the Gorky play Vassa Zheleznoa (Spring, 2006), and an MFA production, Pendejos, by Janine Salinas (Fall, 2005). She will be directing another USC MFA production during the spring semester of 2007. |
