Tony Abatermarco

Tony Abatemarco is an award-winning actor, director, writer, producer and teacher based in Los Angeles. He has directed Ms. Julie Harris in LUCIFER'S CHILD on tour, on Broadway, and in a special televised version for A & E, and has directed at the Pasadena Playhouse, The Taper, Too, Santa Fe Stages, La Mama ETC, and Theatre Grévin in Paris. He recently served as director of the Natural History Museum's "LA Live!" series. A graduate of The Juilliard School's Drama Division, he has won top honors for his lead performances in BACH AT LEIPZIG (LA Drama Critics' Circle Nomination), THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP (Ovation & LAWEE), LA BETE (Ovation nominee), CAMARALENTA (LAWEE & LA Drama Critics' Circle Nomination), and his original FOUR FATHERS (LAWEE and Dramalogue), as well as for his direction - 6 LAWEE's, 18 Dramalogues - and was awarded the first Ted Schmitt INNOVATION IN SMALL THEATRE AWARD by Theatre LA. He has founded two performance venues of his own - The Accident Theatre and The Night House -received two NEA Fellowships for the development of original work, and received the first DGA/ SSDC George Stevens Observership. He was the first West Coast Artistic Director of Jacques D'Amboise' National Dance Institute at The Mark Taper Forum, during which time he also served as Guest Director of Special Projects for Gordon Davidson. Internationally, he has starred in PLATO'S SYMPOSIUM at the ICA in London and in THE WAITING OF ELECTRA in Delphi, Greece. He has performed an adaptation of his original short story, COLOGNE in LA, Miami, Santa Fe, and Off-Broadway. He teaches acting privately and at the USC School of Theatre, where he also frequently directs, and is a permanent adjunct instructor at Santa Monica Emeritus College. His acting credits also extend to film and television appearances including "E.R.," "Frasier," and "The Profiler."
