John Edw. Blankenchip has designed scenery, costumes and lighting on and off Broadway. Since joining USC in 1955, he has designed at Tanglewood, La Cennorentola for Guild Opera, La Jolla Playhouse, and directed and designed for Ebony Showcase. He is the founder/producer/director of Festival Theatre USC-USA, which has participated in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for more than 20 years, as well as appearing at the Holland Festival and completing three tours for the AMERIKA Houses in Germany for the U.S. State Department. He received Fringe First Awards for the British premieres of Buried Child and Follies. He directed the critically acclaimed production of Vivien, written and performed by Marcy Lafferty, at the Edinburgh Festival and in Los Angeles at the Tiffany Theatre. He teaches courses in Directing and Experimental Theatre.
